On March 20, the Greenleaf Garden Club will host Betsy Szymczak and her presentation “A Begonia for Every Season.”
As winter wanes and we think about spring, begonias as bedding and container plants are a beautiful addition to any garden. A month-by-month plan for enjoying this diverse and versatile genus will be described. Attendees will walk away with the knowledge to grow begonias inside and outside in all seasons.
Betsy has recently retired from more than 35 years of teaching clinical microbiology at several Boston area colleges and universities. She is a member of the Buxton Branch of the American Begonia Society (ABS), an ABS certified begonia judge, and was recently named ABS Judging Co-Chair. She has also judged begonia sections at the Philadelphia and Boston Flower Shows and is a student judge for the Gesneriad Society.
The event will be held at the Ruth Anne Bleakney Senior Center, 60 North Bow Street, Milford, on Monday, March 20, at 7:15 p.m. A donation of $5 is suggested.
The Greenleaf Garden Club is a community-based organization that works on local gardens and plots all around Milford, in addition to sponsoring scholarships and hosting horticulture-based programs in local nursing homes and youth centers.
