The building was built in 1884 to commemorate the Civil War and has “one of the finest displays of Civil War artifacts in the country,” according to the Milford Historical Commission’s webpage. It also contains local memorabilia and an extensive collection of articles written about the town offering everyone the opportunity to study our heritage and family genealogies, according to www.milfordma.gov/historical-commission.
According to Wikipedia.org, the building was “designed by Milford architect Frederick Swasey in the Richardsonian Romanesque style, the hall was built in 1884 from local Milford granite and Longmeadow brownstone. The building features carved brownstone figures and panels.”
The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985, and underwent a restoration in 2001–2002.
