Upton Library is now at 9 Milford Street. The Library has moved and is now open at our new location at 9 Milford Street, inside the Upton Community Center.

Programs Survey
Visit the library or our website, uptonlibrary.org, and complete our Adult Programs Survey. We have a new Adult Librarian, Micaela Austin, and she wants to hear all your ideas and preferences for upcoming adult programs at the library.

Come see the Cabinet of Curiosities
This month the display case near the library reception desk has an intriguing exhibit of skulls, teeth and oak galls. This case is available for members of the community to display artwork or personal collections.  If you have a collection to share, contact Matthew.

Yarn Tales Knitting Group
A community group now meeting each Tuesday evening from 6 - 7:30 p.m.
You're invited to knit or crochet with us here in the Upton Town Library classroom. Come with your work in progress, or with something you're just beginning. Give help, get help, or just sit and chat.

Veterans Memorial
Playground
The Playground at 9 Milford Street is now open for use, dawn to dusk. The concrete slides to the lower playground are open, and a therapeutic swing seat has just been installed. As soon as the grass is fully set, the lower area will be opened for running, sitting and playing. Please remember that the playground is carry in/carry out, no trash receptacles are available.

Special Events
Our Annual Summer Reading Program concludes this month as we get ready for back to school. 
Join us for an Ice Cream Social on Saturday, August 12, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Stuffed Animal Sleepover is back! Tuesday, August 8. Children of all ages can drop off a stuffie to have it spend the night at the new Community Center. Who knows what hijinks they’ll get into with the library staff. Look for photos on our website and social media pages the next day to see what fun they had. Stuffies will be picked up the following day.
Blackout Poetry, Thursday, August 11, 1 p.m. Like poetry? Enjoy writing? Tweens and teens can join us from 1 - 2 p.m. for our Blackout Poetry event. We’ll use old book pages, sharpies, watercolor paints, and colored pencils to design our own masterpieces.  Registration required.
Summer Reading Finale, Saturday, August 12, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Enjoy an Ice Cream Social sponsored by the Friends of the Upton Town Library. Families can join us for a scoop of vanilla ice cream and toppings from JJ’s Ice Cream Shoppe. It’s a great way to celebrate the reading we’ve done all summer long, and catch up with friends, old and new, sharing the titles we’ve enjoyed.

Music & Movement – Select Tuesdays 9:30 a.m.
Music & Movement with Deb Hudgins will take place August 8 and 22 from 9:30 -10 a.m. in the Great Room. Join us for stories, songs, and fun. Best for ages 1-5. Partial funding for this program is through a grant from Beginning Bridges CFCE in Uxbridge. Pre-registration is required.

Baby Storytime – Fridays at 9:30 a.m.
Baby Storytime is for ages birth to 3 and is every Friday in August. This is a 20-minute lapsit program featuring stories, songs, and nursery rhymes. For ages 0-3. Pre-registration required. Note – No baby storytime on September 1.

Preschool Storytime – Read Around the Town,
Thursdays at 9:30 a.m.
Preschool Storytime is a 30-minute program, featuring longer stories, songs, rhymes, and crafts. For ages 3-5. Pre-registration required.
During the summer,  Preschool Storytime is replaced by Read around the Town, when Mrs. Murphy visits locations throughout Upton for stories and songs with members of the community. Preschool storytime returns to the Community Center for August 17 and 24. Note – No storytime on August 31.

Saturday Storytime – 
August 5 and September 9
Once a month we offer a Saturday Storytime, blending Baby and Preschool storytimes featuring stories, songs, rhymes and a craft. Can’t join us for our weekday programs, this event is just for you. For ages 0-5. Pre-registration required.

Teen Group – Tuesdays
3 p.m.
This group meets weekly every Tuesday from 3 - 4 p.m. and focuses on a new theme each month, sharing books, crafts, games, and more. For July, our theme will be “Cardboard!” This group is for tweens and teens ages 10-16. This is always a drop-in program. Interested in starting a Teen Book Club? Kids’ Book Club – September 6, 4 p.m.
Our book club members explore popular juvenile and preteen titles on the first Wednesday of each month. On September 6, our meeting will be a summer review and we’ll share all the great books we read this summer. This group is for ages 8-12 and reads mostly middle grade titles. We welcome new members all year round. Pre-registration required.

Upton Reads Book Group
An eclectic mix of contemporary literary fiction with meetings on the second Tuesday afternoon and Thursday evening of each month in the Community Center classroom, with a Zoom remote option. Tuesday, September 12 at 12:45 p.m., and Thursday, September 14 at 6:45 p.m.: Horse, by Geraldine Brooks.
