Superintendent Maureen Cohen and the Mendon Upton Regional School District are pleased to announce that the District has entered a strategic partnership with MaxIQ Corp. to advance STEM education.
Nipmuc Regional High School will be designated a "center of excellence," connecting students with numerous engineering opportunities including Space and Sustainability challenges in collaboration with the United Nations, high-altitude weather balloon missions to test space payloads, aerospace rocket engine tests, suborbital launches with multiple providers, and even missions to the International Space Station (ISS).
Under the direction of Nipmuc Science teacher James Gorman, Nipmuc engineering students participated in a month-long MaxIQ Space World Space Week 2022 competition based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. As a result of their strong performance, Nipmuc students were invited by MaxIQ to take part in a future mission of the NASA's Scientific Balloon Program, and were invited to view a full rocket test flight in Brunswick, Maine.
Mr. Gorman's engineering student designed a scientific payload that will travel more than 100,000 feet into the stratosphere and collect mission-critical data that will inform future space exploration.
“Nipmuc Regional High School's partnership with MaxIQ Corp. is a testament to our collective dedication to excellence in education," Gorman said. "The opportunities provided through this collaboration empower our students to engage in real-world science and engineering, fostering a lifelong passion for innovation and discovery.”
“We are delighted to name Nipmuc Regional High School as a Center of Excellence," said Judi Sandrock, Co-Founder and Director of MaxIQ Corp. "Nipmuc's commitment to excellence in education aligns perfectly with MaxIQ's mission to empower students and educators with innovative tools and experiences. Together, we will cultivate the next generation of leaders in space STEM and Education.”
